Expungement Program

Clear Your Record.
Reclaim Your Future.

How It Works

1

Screen

Meet with a volunteer attorney or supervised law student to review your records for eligibility under Texas statutes.

2

Prepare

Student interns at the Texas A&M Criminal Defense Clinic prepare your expunction or non-disclosure petition.

3

File

Petition filed with the court at no cost to you, funded by a Texas Bar Foundation grant.

4

Clear

Your qualifying record is cleared or sealed — opening doors to housing, jobs, and licensing.

Who’s Eligible?

Texas law may allow expunction or non-disclosure in several situations. You may qualify if:

  • Your charge was dismissed before trial
  • You were acquitted at trial
  • You completed certain deferred adjudications after a waiting period
  • You were arrested but never formally charged
  • Your offense was a Class C misdemeanor in specific circumstances

Not sure if you qualify?

Eligibility depends on the specifics of your case. The fastest way to find out is to come to one of our clinics or contact us for a screening.

What to Bring to a Clinic

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Any paperwork you have from your case — citations, charging documents, dismissal orders, judgments, discharge papers
  • Contact info for anyone who needs follow-up

Millions of Texans have some form of criminal record. For many, that record blocks housing, employment, and state licensing — even for arrests that never led to conviction.

Expungement is a right you have to claim.

Why It Matters

Expungement is the legal correction of a system that doesn’t automatically clear records that should be clear. It’s not a favor. It’s a right you have to affirmatively claim.

Through our partnership with the L. Clifford Davis Legal Association — a historic Fort Worth firm with a civil rights legacy going back decades — and the Texas A&M Criminal Defense Clinic, we make that claim possible for Texans who couldn’t otherwise afford legal help.
