This story from NBC News highlights how misinformation on the cash bail system is being weaponized for political purposes. The negative rhetoric surrounding this reform is what keeps nonviolent, lower income people in jail despite the evidence disputing the system keeping them there. The Justice Reform Foundation wants to share this story as an example of how our bail system fails to provide any meaningful reduction in crime or pretrial arrests and to urge public to look more closely at the context of the crime rates used to push against reform.
